Jules thought he knew the Père-Lachaise cemetery, the tombs of Morrison and Oscar Wilde, covered in kisses, until he met Thierry Le Roi. He followed him along a stroll through this outdoor museum that he rediscovered at the same time. Edith (Piaf), Guillaume (Apollinaire), Marcel (Proust)… He calls them by their surname as if he had known them forever. As a matter of fact, Thierry Le Roi wanders around the alleys of the Père-Lachaise and Montmartre cemeteries everyday to show curious visitors the tombs of celebrities, well-written epitaphs, the story of characters, the architecture of funerary monuments… Mister Le Roi is an historian, a poet and a humorist at the same time. Along the tombs, he brings their residents back to life: he sings Piaf, recites poems by Apollinaire, quotes Desproges, stops at Chopin’s tomb, speaks verses by Eluard or Musset, reads the epitaphs of unknown or forgotten people such as poetess Anna de Noailles: “I wasn’t made to be dead”… Visiting the Père-Lachaise or Montmartre cemetery with him is like going back in time and listening to a passionate man telling History with little stories. A great moment subtlety combining laughter and emotion, because this stroll is similar to a show with high points, changes of scenery and a grand finale!
Visits are set up every Saturday and Sunday at 10 am and 2.30 pm. For more information on the theme and place of the visit (Montmartre or Père-Lachaise), go to www.necro-romantique.com.
