Jules is a Sybarite !

Jules has hotelier friends in Paris. This is the case with Beauchamps, where Jules often chooses to have breakfast, at Le Velvet.

And so the Beauchamps hotel, in turn, has opened a blog entitled ‘le Sybarite’. So what is a sybarite? It can be defined as an inhabitant of the ancient Greek city, Sybaris, or a devotee of a philosophical doctrine which advocates the search for pleasure in a controlled manner. In short, it defines Jules. The Sybarite blog is wonderful, humorous, and filled with ideas of trips and cultural visits throughout the capital, for anyone on any budget. In essence, it is the seeking of pleasure through culture, design, fashion, buzz… One week, Jules will treat himself to a preview of the opening repertoire of the Comédie Française, which creates such an electric atmosphere, the next, he discovers the marvellous stilettos designed by Christian Louboutin for Cendrillon

Another week, he explores, through the medium of two different photographic worlds, the fantastic and glamorous lives of Alice Springs and Charlotte Rampling, and discover the pop-chic Schnock review, or the amazing designs of the Milk Factory.

With Le Sybarite, Jules is always kept in the know with the best updates, from culture to all things cool, in his bright, exciting city.

Jules and his bistro-hopping adventure

In taste, look and spirit, Jules is a true bobo. A mixture of different genres has given him an open spirit, and a thirst for knowledge; he wants to know everything, to learn everything, and taste everything! Faced with this thirst for life, Jules often wanders around the old bistrots “à l’ancienne”, where you happily share a table with strangers or have friendly chats with the owners at the end of service. Amongst these kinds of places, Le Pantruche is without doubt one of the most beautiful that Jules could find.

This restaurant hidden away between Pigalle and rue des Martyrs is the perfect little Parisian bistrot, showcasing its original features: a grand bar, spotty mirrors, wooden tables and chairs… Le Pantruche, which was slang for Paris in 1835, is friendly and lively, as much in its atmosphere as in its food, and the head chef Franck Baranger whips up a short but varied menu of traditional French cuisine.

So, what’s on the menu? How about confit of roast veal in verbena with minted peas, Pollock with crispy smoked bacon and beer and onion mousse, or even soft-boiled eggs, Spanish omelette and siphon chorizo? What, didn’t we tell you? Le Pantruche is a gourmet bistro after all! Come on you amateurs!

Good to know: The menu changes regularly depending on the chef’s inspiration and what he can get in the local market, so don’t be disappointed if they aren’t serving the delicious dish you had last time that you so loved, it will be back soon!

Open Monday to Friday from midday to 2.30pm, and from 7pm to 10.30pm.

Jules loves a bit of Japanese tapas!

If Jules was ever exiled, he’d head straight to Japan without a shadow of a doubt; to go to a country this refined, where the food is as delicious as it is… Jules gets butterflies just thinking about it! As a bit of a fan of raw fish dishes, he loves wandering the streets of Paris in search of a real Japanese dining experience, and, totally by chance, he found a super place in his cherished 9th arrondissement… on rue Richer.

At Kiku, after taking a table which, although not much to look at, is as cosy as can be, you’ll learn that the chef Kyoichi Kai, having worked in Tokyo, Sydney and London, decided to set up shop over in Paris. Here, he allows his Parisian patrons to taste some proper Japanese tapas, the minutely detailed, carefully crafted bite-size pieces of heaven. They are so good that Jules will happily help himself to two or three more than he should!

As for the side dishes, you’d be crazy not to try the salmon Sashimi with hot sesame seed oil, and obviously the restaurant also offers things like miso soup and other types of sushi. For dessert, its virtually impossible for our beloved Jules to resist the call of the green tea ice sorbet. It’s a real delicacy that he’d devour by the bucket load if he could!

A big + : Bluefin tuna has been banned from the Kiku. Why? Because it’s an endangered species which has no place on their menu.

35€ set menu: 2 starters and 2 main courses.
Open every day from 12pm to 12.30pm and from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Closed Sundays.

Jules is a fan of the Boot!

Mamma mia! But what is that? Virgin olive oil, polenta, Italian wines, sundried tomatoes from Apulia, fresh Ricotta, not to mention the almond milk and the Cosenza figs… A paradise for all who cherish the tastes from ‘the boot’! Jules, an admirer of Italian cuisine, doesn’t hesitate to take il suo amore to RAP, a fine Italian delicatessen which has been transformed into a chic restaurant.

At the moment, you can taste a seasonal vegetable Strudel, prawns seasoned in black truffle oil, or a tart of aubergines in basil, or fillets of sole gilded in Parmesan. Of course, after your meal, a shopping trip the delicatessen is necessary so you can leave with thousands of products to eat!

RAP, the Italian restaurant, welcomes you from Wednesday to Sunday, afternoons and weekends.
The Delicatessen is open Tuesday, 10.30am to 1pm and 3.30pm to 7.30pm and on Wednesday to Sunday 10.30am to 8pm.

Jules loves trattorias!

Ah Italie. Jules would sell his soul to have some Italian origins, because in his eyes, Italians have all the class, the style, and the charm, and of course that beautiful sing song language. Being the true dandy Parisian that he is, he dreams of having these qualities (you have to remind him that actually he has all of them!). So to compensate for his misfortune at not being Italian, he spends as much time as possible in trattorias; these are the real deal, just like the ones you used to find in Italy. His destination of choice at the moment? Il Circolo, the totally new Italian restaurant in the 9th arrondissement.

A few years back, Jules met Olivia Silberstein, who, after a year spent in Venice as part of her studies, decided to return to Paris to open up her own establishment, built in the image of the country she fell in love with. She teamed up with Luca, the founder of the famous Pizetta de l’Avenue Trudaine, and so the adventure began!

Open since the 24th September, Il Circolo hits the nail on the head: neat decor, contemporary cuisine, and a casually chic atmosphere. Jules loves meeting his closest friends there and spending the nights drinking Spritz (the famous Venetian cocktail), before gorging himself on prawn and courgette carbonara or maybe even grilled aubergine served with buffalo mozzarella and fresh tomatoes. A true delicacy!

And for dessert? Obviously it’s all about the Tiramisu!

Organic Pizzas at GreenPizz

At the heart of Jules there is a Sicilian (or so he believes). Because to see him devour a Borealis pizza (ricotta, smoked salmon, dill, cucumber) at Green Pizz, you would almost believe that he was weaned on Pizza instead of the bottle!

In this eco-friendly and organic Pizzeria on Rue Cadet, you taste oval pizzas (pretty unconventional) with a fresh taste and a large size. Extremely colorful; these pizzas are made only from organic products, AOC or from sustainable farming. Their pasta is 100% organic, made with whole meal flour and wheat. Yum!

As a bonus, this restaurant, which practices recycling, only uses biodegradable packaging and delivers their pizzas on an electric scooter or a skateboard! A great way of combining environmental awareness and pleasing your taste buds at the same time. Everything that Jules loves!

Open Monday de 7pm to 10.45pm, et du Tuesday to Saturday de 12pm to 2.30pm, and from 7pm to 10.45.

Quentin’s Cantine : Jules’ secret place

Jules likes to get away from Grands Boulevards to get some fresh air by the Saint Martin Canal. As a result of wandering there, he has discovered some of the best places in the area. Amongst them, Quentin’s Cantine, a restaurant, a delicatessen and a wine cellar, in the boho spirit, makes his top 10.

Jules, being the lover of life that he is, adores the traditional French gastronomy, in particular the wines ! That works out well, because Quentin Hoffmann (floorman) et Johan Baron (chef), entirely decorated their room with bottles of wine and champagne!

On your plate you taste a creative cuisine, fresh and tangy, which always gives pleasure! It is difficult to resist the charm of Quentin!

Open du Tuesday au Sunday de 10h à 19h.
Lunch de 12h à 15h30.

Jules is… hot like hot coals!

Jules loves the hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant. Without a single fault from the starter to the dessert; the interior design to the shop frontage with its glowing red neon sign, the restaurant Le Braisenville in the 9th arrondissement has become the latest hangout for the über elite. Jules likes going there for its prevailing “masculine” vibe despite the ‘70s acid pop décor. It gives Jules the opportunity to spread his cultural ideology (namely his taste in music) and to discuss the stars of the era. But even Jules has to eat, so he orders a veal sweetbread with mashed sweet potato (garnished with a citrus twist)… a real man’s dish! For everyone else (the real men) you’ll be eagerly awaiting your côte de bœuf grilled on a Spanish brazier at the heart of the restaurant. Olé!

Closed on Sundays
