Jules is just a big kid really!

Don’t forget that Jules is actually an uncle! He loves spending his Wednesday afternoons with his sister’s son, Théo, whom he can’t help but shower with gifts. Being the avid art and music fan that he is, Jules takes him to discover an unusual place, right in the heart of beautiful, bohemian Paris: La Péniche Antipode.

In 2002, an investment by the company Abricadabra transformed this old freight barge into a theatre dedicated to children and their parents. Anchored on the Villette basin, it shows a range of different dramatic or dance acts, as well as the occasional concert.

Jules isn’t averse to grabbing a few drinks whilst there either, his nephew going for a refreshing lemonade while he would choose a Brazilian Maté or, if it’s a really hot day, a Love Potion (apple, blackcurrant, strawberry etc). At la Péniche Antipode, all of the products and drinks are from independent sources and are fair trade, which is why Jules likes it so much. It is just another reason for people to discover this artistic and laid back venue.

Open every day from 4 pm, from 10 am during weekends .

Jules impresses his darling at the Olympia!

To delight his darling, Jules never hesitates to dazzle her by bringing her to the most beautiful places of the City of Lights. His sweetheart loves culture and going to concerts? Jules immediately whips out his credit card and reserves two tickets for a concert at the Olympia.

Bruno Coquatrix’s legendary concert venue and music-hall since 1952, the Olympia has welcomed many big names onto its stage, from Brel to Brassens, Barbara to Louis Armstrong, and we mustn’t forget Piaf or Trénet. His darling cannot help but be speechless in light of this list. She leaves the Olympia starry-eyed and full of dreams… Oh, what it must be like to be one of those stars if only for just one night!

Palace or Privilege : torn between the two

Le Palace, that name must ring a bell, right? Nothing surprising there, since it was a legendary club in the 70s and 80s, linked to pop music and the rise of the gay culture. Big names made appearances at this House of Cool, THE place to be: Lagarfeld, Warhol, Jagger, Mitterand, Ardisson…and now, Jules!

But since those days, the Palace has noticeably changed direction. Today, it is a theatre. Since Valérie Lemercier’s inaugural show in 2008, this theatre has welcomed numerous artists, comedians, humorists including Pierre Palmade, Liane Foly, Calogero, Florence Foresti, Stéphane Rousseau (to name a few!)

When Jules leaves the Palace, he is often famished and it is not unlike him to head straight to the Privilège, the Palace’s restaurant-club. The cuisine is original, honoring traditional French cuisine. Lamb Shanks, wasabi beef strips, but New York burger, chicken yakitori and fried gambas are also available!

The chic and design atmosphere of the Privilège is also worth the detour: refined, The room features a nice, yet show-off and jet set feel. A place to see and to be seen. In a nutshell, a place that is 100% Parisian.

Jules extends the ‘Fête de la musique’

Not even a week after the ‘Fête de la musique’ (which Jules is eagerly anticipating), the Festival Voix sur Berges is taking place in Paris. On June 26th, more than 3500 singers belonging to 140 choirs from Ile-de-France will reunite on the banks of Canal Saint-Martin.

The programme: from gospel to jazz, through to rock and international music, all different music styles will come together for this 2011 edition. The choirs will disperse over 18 different natural sites on the edge of the canal and in the Villemin park.

The key event of the afternoon will undoubtedly be the big final gathering, which at 7.30pm, will consist of 700 choir singers in front of the place Jemmapes. The composer and choirmaster John Meldrum was approached for the 15th anniversary of the festival. He will therefore be giving us the sequel to the piece ‘The River of Love’.

An event that Jules does not intend on missing, being the music fan that he is!

Festival Voix Sur Berges
Sunday 26 June from 2pm to 8pm on the banks of the Canal Saint-Martin (Paris Xe).
