Jules loves trattorias!

Ah Italie. Jules would sell his soul to have some Italian origins, because in his eyes, Italians have all the class, the style, and the charm, and of course that beautiful sing song language. Being the true dandy Parisian that he is, he dreams of having these qualities (you have to remind him that actually he has all of them!). So to compensate for his misfortune at not being Italian, he spends as much time as possible in trattorias; these are the real deal, just like the ones you used to find in Italy. His destination of choice at the moment? Il Circolo, the totally new Italian restaurant in the 9th arrondissement.

A few years back, Jules met Olivia Silberstein, who, after a year spent in Venice as part of her studies, decided to return to Paris to open up her own establishment, built in the image of the country she fell in love with. She teamed up with Luca, the founder of the famous Pizetta de l’Avenue Trudaine, and so the adventure began!

Open since the 24th September, Il Circolo hits the nail on the head: neat decor, contemporary cuisine, and a casually chic atmosphere. Jules loves meeting his closest friends there and spending the nights drinking Spritz (the famous Venetian cocktail), before gorging himself on prawn and courgette carbonara or maybe even grilled aubergine served with buffalo mozzarella and fresh tomatoes. A true delicacy!

And for dessert? Obviously it’s all about the Tiramisu!

Organic Pizzas at GreenPizz

At the heart of Jules there is a Sicilian (or so he believes). Because to see him devour a Borealis pizza (ricotta, smoked salmon, dill, cucumber) at Green Pizz, you would almost believe that he was weaned on Pizza instead of the bottle!

In this eco-friendly and organic Pizzeria on Rue Cadet, you taste oval pizzas (pretty unconventional) with a fresh taste and a large size. Extremely colorful; these pizzas are made only from organic products, AOC or from sustainable farming. Their pasta is 100% organic, made with whole meal flour and wheat. Yum!

As a bonus, this restaurant, which practices recycling, only uses biodegradable packaging and delivers their pizzas on an electric scooter or a skateboard! A great way of combining environmental awareness and pleasing your taste buds at the same time. Everything that Jules loves!

Open Monday de 7pm to 10.45pm, et du Tuesday to Saturday de 12pm to 2.30pm, and from 7pm to 10.45.

Quentin’s Cantine : Jules’ secret place

Jules likes to get away from Grands Boulevards to get some fresh air by the Saint Martin Canal. As a result of wandering there, he has discovered some of the best places in the area. Amongst them, Quentin’s Cantine, a restaurant, a delicatessen and a wine cellar, in the boho spirit, makes his top 10.

Jules, being the lover of life that he is, adores the traditional French gastronomy, in particular the wines ! That works out well, because Quentin Hoffmann (floorman) et Johan Baron (chef), entirely decorated their room with bottles of wine and champagne!

On your plate you taste a creative cuisine, fresh and tangy, which always gives pleasure! It is difficult to resist the charm of Quentin!

Open du Tuesday au Sunday de 10h à 19h.
Lunch de 12h à 15h30.

Jules finds his femininity at Gals Rock!

This is a place that Jules discovered by accident, while spending an evening with his group of friends in the Pigalle quarter, looking for a bar… Passing in front of Gals Rock, the guitar riffs titillated his ears, being the rock amateur that he is, and he could not stop himself from making a musical stop in this odd shop. Why is it odd? Because Gals Rock is dedicated solely to the feminine rock culture!

Here, girls find the ‘diamond rocker’ which is in them and buy clothes, books, vinyl’s, accessories or 100% Rock DVDs! The opportunity to share musical culture, by discovering a list of incredible female rock artists is here in this shop.

A few times a month; Pauline and Clémence, the directors of Gals Rock, organise free showcases : where Jules will go to very regularly from now on ! There is no shortage of fake moustaches to buy, also sold by the boutique, to pretend to be manly men… But his darling gets them and imitates him to (gently) mock him!

Pecking like a bird? That’s Jules’ thing!

Being the good Parisian bobo that he is, Jules likes to look after his body and as a consequence, his health. A connoisseur of vegetarian cuisine, he often heads over to Lawrence Aboucaya’s boutique-restaurant – a place frequented by artists and sports personalities so they can stock up on their herbal juice drinks and their sprouted seed snacks.

At Pousse-Pousse, you won’t find anything that isn’t beautiful, organic and healthy! Whether eating in or taking away, take your pick from vegetarian meals, fruit juices or cold drawn organic vegetables. Jules has such a massive thing for this type of cuisine that he decided to take a course in high-vitality cooking; now he’s totally full of vitamins, micronutrients, minerals and proteins.

The benefits of eating sprouted seeds are pretty clear: anti-oxidants, anti-stress, they are also a major player in combating weight gain (result for Jules), they help fight against the harmful effects of tobacco (Jules is French ok, so yes he occasionally smokes) and they help relieve the stress of a hectic city lifestyle! Jules has finally worked out and understood that he can eat well, healthily and have fun.

The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Friday from midday to 2.45pm
The shop is open from 11am to 3.30pm and from 4.30pm to 7pm
Open Saturdays from midday to 6pm (lunch service until 4pm)

Jules is crazy about La Fidélité

Jules knows, obviously, all the places in Paris to go to in order to be seen. So, after spending a steamy night at hotel Amour with his beloved, and spending his evenings at Le Baron, Jules has become fully infatuated with somewhere else: La Fidélité, THE ultimate in chic bistros, conceived by the duo André and Lionel.

So, what’s on the cards at La Fidélité? A chic atmosphere with plaster moulded walls, and a classic yet appetising menu, that’s what. Jules can never decide between two dishes: Knuckle of Lamb with a citrus confit and a sprinkling of Almonds, or the Noix de Saint-Jacques, served with mashed potatoes and spinach with a garlic butter sauce. And being the romantic that he is, he always feels the need to order a dessert of French toast with caramel butter to share with his sweetheart, whilst staring deep into each others eyes.

Often Jules finishes his nights here, a tad on the wrong side of tipsy, in the restaurant’s cellar, classified “TOP SECRET”; This is the place where the beautiful Parisian women dance the night away…

Open Monday to Saturday from 8pm – 1am.

Beauty treatment secrets to die for!

Because Jules fiancé has always dreamed of being a pin-up, our favourite dandy Parisian decided to give her a sneak peek at the book ‘Recettes de Beauté’ by Bérénice Cler and Eve Saint-Ramon. The official pin up and hotel Jules (obviously Jules favourite design hotel) photographer took a number of vivid photographs of the beauty treatments aimed at women from 15 to 99 years old!

From a milk bath to a morning after face mask, each of the beauty treatments is totally natural and is based on fully edible ingredients! Quick and easy to do at home, they combine fun with the pleasure of feeling beautiful. In the book, the treatments are organised by theme: facial, hands, lips or body scrubs to name but a few. And what if you don’t know where to get the bits and pieces to do the treatments? Well, Eve and Bérénice have even gone to the trouble of listing everywhere that you can buy your precious ‘ingredients’. The benefits of natural beauty are no longer a closely guarded secret!

We Love: After finishing his photo shoot with the glamorous and sexy pin-ups at hotel Jules, Eve Saint-Ramon also took part in judging the hotel’s “Lips” photo contest, with the winner being announced very soon… Watch this space!

Tuesday 18th October, the two authors are doing a book signing at the Mezzanine de l’Alcazar. What better time to ask them about their beauty secrets!?

Recettes de Beauté – written by Bérénice Clerc, photography by Eve Saint-Ramon. Coming autumn 2011, published by YB ÉDITIONS – 19x23cm, 160 pages, 110 photos, 19,95€.

Jules loves the cool new gadgets at Afwosh

Jules thinks of himself as a bit of a prankster. So, when he fancies finding something that will make his friends laugh, he merely has to head over to Afwosh, the amusing gadget shop created by Cholé and Emilie. Here, everything is totally random: Darth Vader rings, panama hats, fast food erasers, chic iPhone cases, handmade jewellery chains and screen printed tshirts to name but a few.

This Parisian concept store is entirely dedicated to fashion accessories, trendy clothing for men, women and children, as well as unusual and fun objects. Jules is totally incapable of going there without buying at least one little trinket for himself or his godson.

Open from Monday to Saturday, from 11 am to 8 pm.

Jules is just a big kid really!

Don’t forget that Jules is actually an uncle! He loves spending his Wednesday afternoons with his sister’s son, Théo, whom he can’t help but shower with gifts. Being the avid art and music fan that he is, Jules takes him to discover an unusual place, right in the heart of beautiful, bohemian Paris: La Péniche Antipode.

In 2002, an investment by the company Abricadabra transformed this old freight barge into a theatre dedicated to children and their parents. Anchored on the Villette basin, it shows a range of different dramatic or dance acts, as well as the occasional concert.

Jules isn’t averse to grabbing a few drinks whilst there either, his nephew going for a refreshing lemonade while he would choose a Brazilian Maté or, if it’s a really hot day, a Love Potion (apple, blackcurrant, strawberry etc). At la Péniche Antipode, all of the products and drinks are from independent sources and are fair trade, which is why Jules likes it so much. It is just another reason for people to discover this artistic and laid back venue.

Open every day from 4 pm, from 10 am during weekends .
