Jules has Paris at his feet at the Galeries’ Summer Terrace

Tempted to take a break, head in the clouds? Jules has an address just up his sleeve: the Summer Terrace at the Galeries Lafayette!

Located on the 8th and top floor of the department store, this fleeting spot is exceptional: panoramic views over the Parisian rooftops and monuments, the city of lights is at your feet! The décor is by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manky, currently big shots of interior architecture, and portrays a sense of tranquillity and zen.

As for the food, the menu has been assigned to Fumiko Kono, former chef of the Arpège, and Pierre Hermé, king of macarons. The result: fresh and original creations as only to be expected of these two chefs. The flavours subtly blend the traditional French cuisine with a Japanese twist.

The plus : Fumiko Kono has concocted a mixture of sweet and salty delights to go in a basket or a bento! Whichever takes your fancy!

A timeless moment but Jules recommends you reserve because the Terrace only holds 60 place settings which are grabbed within minutes!

On the 8th floor of the main store. Open Mondays to Saturdays from 12pm until 6pm.

At the Comptoir de Brice : a Top Chef !

Jules is always up to date with what is going on in his area! And he could not imagine missing the opening of Comptoir de Brice in the heart of the Saint-Martin Market in the 10th arrondissement!

Jules recognized instantly the chef behind the counter… Brice, Top Chef, 2010 series! Do you remember? The nice chap from Lyon who cried easily and unfortunately lost in the semi-finals!
Even though he did not win that particular accolade, we still find him in his bustling, open kitchen concocting simple and efficient dishes. Wedged between the vegetable seller and the butcher, you lean on the “comptoir” (counter) to enjoy a gazpacho, a home-made style ratatouille or one of his daily culinary inventions depending on the products of the market!
Jules loved the truffle pizza and the foie-gras croque monsieur that he tried last time. His friends also told him that the Burger de Brice is a real delight! Don’t say we didn’t tell you…

The little + : As of September, Brice will be giving classes to learn how to cook like a chef!

Open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9am until 8pm and Sundays from 9am until 2pm.

Jules likes to surprise his love !

One beautiful morning… Jules slowly wakes up; his other half has gone to work so he starts flicking through her Elle magazine. Page 48, he lands on a shop highlighted in pink… The Cakes de Bertrand. Without a minute lost, he gets dressed and sets off to this vintage temple to buy a cute gift for his sweetie.

Once in the shop, Jules is overwhelmed… How to find the perfect present out of all these retro 20s style bags, clutches, notebooks and wallets? Finally, after a few wise words of wisdom from an able shop assistant he opts for the sought after “Gloria” clutch with polka dots!

Jules is an eternal romantic and he knows the way to a girl’s heart is by spoiling them. No doubt that his missus will fall under the charm of this romantic gift once back home after a long day at work and the battle against the Parisian transport! How lovely it is to come home to the man you love… !

Open Monday to Thursdays from 9.30am until 11.30am and 2.30pm until 4.30pm.

In Jules’ plate

Sapporo, the most popular Japanese canteen on Rue Saint Anne is always full. And Jules is very aware of that.

Over there, râmens are the eatery’s specialty (broth with noodles and vegetable or various meats). Traditional Japanese dishes such as onburi, oyakodon and all sorts of fried noodles are also served there. The Ebi Yakisoba dish always makes Jules weak at the knees, and we understand the reason for it!

A small haven of the Land of the Rising Sun where one can discover real traditional Japanese delicacies other than sushis. Invigorating!

Bendelirious by Etat libre d’Orange

For the “Bouche(s)” contest organized by the Jules Hotel, Etat libre d’Orange is offering one of its perfumes: Bendelirious.

bendelirious-concours-photo-jules-boutique-hotel-sopi
This perfume is the olfactory eccentricity of Mister Henry Bendel and his homonymous boutique in New York (as seen on Gossip Girl)! Just like this temple of fashion and shopping, the fragrance representing it had to smell like voluptuous lips, a Chanel bag, a Lanvin dress and Louboutin stilettos dancing in the streets of Manhattan!
Antoine Lie, perfume designer for Armani, Paul Smith… who already created several perfumes for Etat libre d’Orange, was entrusted the mission of creating a juice in the image of Bendel women: elegant, sophisticated, juicy and party enthusiast…
Bendelirious first leaves a bubbly champagne trail with notes of grapefruit and cherry. The intoxicating and mysterious iris reflects a sharp femininity whereas the Tonka bean and musc base note exude delicacy. The result is a bubbly fragrance for party girls, cheerful, elegant and surprising!
A delicate iris and cherry kiss, exquisitely design and wisely original in the image of the Jules Hotel!

Bendelirious is one of the prizes of the “Bouche(s)” contest organized by the Jules Hotel.

Jules acts bobo at the Musée de la Vie Romantique

Being the eternal romantic that he is, Jules has to decided to spend Sunday at Nouvelle Athènes which houses the ‘Musée de la Vie Romantique’, once frequented by artists and intellectuals of Paris. Regulars include George Sand, Frédéric Chopin, Ary Scheffer have given the place its poetic-romantic atmosphere. The Musée de la Vie Romantique resembles more of a beautiful country house, with its green shutters and flower filled garden, rather than a traditional Parisian museum. And best of all… it takes you back in time and far from the bustling streets of Paris!

On the ground floor is the memorabilia of George Sand: furniture, jewelry and portraits from the 18th century. On the first floor, you will find a collection from the Dutch painter, Ary Scheffer as well as his contemporary works. New exhibitions are regularly presented (the most recent one was dedicated to the Russian Romantic), with the museum offering guided tours and courses.

What could be more romantic than strolling with my Jules under the trees, in an area which inspires love and dreams? On top of that, one Monday each month, the Amis du Musée organize ‘les lundis romantiques’ (Romantic Mondays) to revive the ancient traditions of Parisian literary rooms which organized musical activities and readings in small groups.

Rates : from 3,5€ to 7,5€ for temporary exhibitions.
Access to the collections and garden is free.
Open every day, from 10am until 6pm except Mondays and bank holidays.

Stroll avenue Trudaine

Spread the word, it’s summer ! And at this time of year, Jules loves to go for walks on the steep paths of Montmartre, the flowery alleyways and the paved streets. Near the charming area of Anvers, there is a calm and green street covered with flowers and trees – the perfect place to shelter from the blazing sun. Towards avenue Trudaine, where Jules lets us in on the best places…

Very often, Jules starts his day in the area with a big breakfast at Pizzetta, a delicious Italian restaurant on the avenue. He appreciates particularly the relaxed atmosphere, the sunlit terrace and the authentic cuisine inspired by the classic Italian cuisine. Sometimes, for a change, he decides to have breakfast right next door at Salumeria, a delicatessen offering delicious Milanese food and good wine!

After the meal, Jules enjoys taking a walk on the street and wander to number 7, a charming toy shop for children. Le Ciel est à Tout le Monde offers games and « traditional » toys, far from video games and electronic toys. The Barbapapa, Elmer, Babar, the Little Prince… Jules always loves to go back to his childhood days and to buy a little present for his sister’s son… After all, Jules is an uncle!

To take advantage of the sunny days ahead, Jules most of the time stops at the square d’Anvers, located at the exit of the metro. Renovated in 2006, it has a lawn which is open to the public (something quite rare in Paris!) where it is nice to just lay and relax after a long walk in the area. An elegant music kiosk dominates the garden as well as bed of flowers which leads towards the Sacré Cœur.

Ready to change hair style?

Salon de coiffure Jean-Marc Maniatis aux Galeries Lafayette Haussmann Wanting a new look? Leave Jules behind for a few hours and dash to the Jean-Marc Maniatis hair salon located on the 2nd floor of Galeries Lafayette Haussmann !

The wild mid-length haircut à la Rolling Stones is all down to him, the short square fringe, sported on Sophie Marceau in L’amour Braque, is also his creation! Jean-Marc Maniatis is considered as one of today’s most legendary hairdressers! His secret weapon? To cut hair when its dry.

Even if the master has put away his pair of scissors, every hairdresser in every salon is trained with the Maniatis technique: the cut is carried out on blow dried hair so that it falls naturally. Then each hair strand is meticulously worked on as if the hair dresser sculpted the hair with small scissors! The result: a natural cut which respects the nature of the hair, makes it stand alone and last longer!

The +: The Maniatis Hair Salon also offers manicures, herbal reflexology treatments… the perfect time for a pampering session of absolute beauty and well-being!

Palace or Privilege : torn between the two

Le Palace, that name must ring a bell, right? Nothing surprising there, since it was a legendary club in the 70s and 80s, linked to pop music and the rise of the gay culture. Big names made appearances at this House of Cool, THE place to be: Lagarfeld, Warhol, Jagger, Mitterand, Ardisson…and now, Jules!

But since those days, the Palace has noticeably changed direction. Today, it is a theatre. Since Valérie Lemercier’s inaugural show in 2008, this theatre has welcomed numerous artists, comedians, humorists including Pierre Palmade, Liane Foly, Calogero, Florence Foresti, Stéphane Rousseau (to name a few!)

When Jules leaves the Palace, he is often famished and it is not unlike him to head straight to the Privilège, the Palace’s restaurant-club. The cuisine is original, honoring traditional French cuisine. Lamb Shanks, wasabi beef strips, but New York burger, chicken yakitori and fried gambas are also available!

The chic and design atmosphere of the Privilège is also worth the detour: refined, The room features a nice, yet show-off and jet set feel. A place to see and to be seen. In a nutshell, a place that is 100% Parisian.
