Jules and the “Fils à Maman”

Jules loves to take his friends out to eat at restaurants… For friends. And because Jules has a vintage spirit, he willingly chooses an address which brings back childhood memories, like the Fils à Maman. This restaurant is made for friends, in every way since it is the result of 4 friends’ hard work, Nico, Alban, Nico and Julien. Jules knows the group well: one of the Nicos worked for the Radisson group – catering has been his domain since he was 18. As for the others, they are mostly experts in the entertainment/ambiance field with their background in organizing “Carwash” events in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, for more than 6 years with Maxime, a former student of a French cuisine school (Ferrandi) who worked with great chefs (Almond) and Romuald, who is a little bit of a punk, who cooked with his mother for theater troupes during his childhood… It’s therefore seems logical that Jules come here with his friends, to eat the good old dishes his mother cooked for him when he was kid, back in the 80s.

On the menu, Jules finds, improved or even with a twist of current trends, according to the seasons, yummy versions of comforting dishes that he used to love: cordon bleu (but with chicked grilled on a raclette and smoked duck breast with mashed potatoes and butter) Babybel (as breaded croquettes as a starter) macaroni shells (but done in a risotto style, prego, accompanied by a pork loin, breaded in spicey Esplette, honey sauce!) and also sticks of breaded Pollock but ‘not the frozen Capt’n Igloo ones’ with a carrot puree, lime and chive cream sauce, Jules has a real weakness for desserts : chocolate cake, Kinder eggs, Petit Lu biscuits with Nutella banana Chantilly cream or even Tarte Tatin (tatatin!) and his little pot of crème fraiche, even the famous smarties tiramisu!…The deco is in keeping with this feel, mixing an ambiance of a child’s bedroom with a classroom feel: and in between dictating a bit of magic, a Kiki and a RoboCop, lots of photos of festive friends brighten the warm room and the nice terrace.

Dragibus on Jules cake: the welcome is just like at home and the prices are all very reasonable! To animate the already cheerful restaurant, Jules loves the treats: a wheel which, as a regular customer, he is sometimes allowed to spin, for free coffees, surprises, or even the breakfasts offered! And then once a month, one of the mothers of the merry band of the restaurant takes control of the kitchen to prepare a unique menu which brings back all Jules’s good old memories!

7 bis rue Geoffroy Marie in 9th arrondissement, lunch : menus from 15 € or 19 €, single dish : 11 €, rib eye steak for 2 + chips 52€ evenings à la carte, starters and desserts around 8€ dishes from 15 to 22€ Tel. 01 48 24 59 39 www.lesfilsamaman.com

Happy Easter!

Tomorrow is the start of the Easter weekend, and Jules is running about buying chocolates. With his legendary good taste, Jules will not have to spend from the afternoon searching; he’ll head straight to la Mere de Famille, a stone’s throw from the hotel, in the distinguished boutique with the listed historic façade – overflowing with chocolates and high-end confectionary, and showcased with creativity. Open and taste the praline chocolate eggs or the beautifully decorated treats – it’s a moment of pure delight! Whilst waiting, Jules tried a mini milk chocolate bunny then decided to buy several bigger bunnies as gifts.

To complete his collection of chocolate bunnies, he also took a trip to Ladurée: they have less Easter treats but have a small selection of very colorful bunnies: pink chocolate bunnies, pale green bunnies…
