To the Rocketship!

Walking towards the butte Montmartre, Jules stumbled accross a boutique full of original ideas the sort of which which he goes crazy for: the Rocketship.

Seeing as there is a small counter Jules perched himself against it and struck up a conversation with the proprietor Benoît. The latter decided to change his career path about ten months ago. After starting out working in a big communication agency, and thanks to being inspired by a father who is a keen photographer and a brother who is a graphic designer, he set himself up here to sell works of art from designers and artists, both from this area and from all over the world. Some of these pieces are very dear to Benoit, and he only produces them in very small and occasionally exclusive series. Such as the pretty posters designed by his brother (sold at 45 euros framed), or even the American ceramist, whose cups and saucers in two-tone grey (49,95 euros each) have a raw beauty.

For the local artists, Benoit has created a label; ‘made in the 9th’ which Jules loves – bracelets (12,90 euros) and cloud lamps (49 euros), both made out of fabric, by Clem au Chocolat, blankets made of vintage cloth (rabbit 68 euros, cat cushion 36 euros) made by ‘a lady who lives on rue Duperré’, notebooks created by the graphic designers from Papier Tigre (14 euros)… There are also of course creations from elsewhere (Berlin, South Africa) which Benoit found ‘through searching on blogs’ beautiful handmade pieces out of felt, (donkey 95 euros egg cosy 23 euros), Scandinavian teapots, small ‘rocket lamps’ (139 euros) hand made by another American, and many more rare items including some small pieces of antique furniture (50s and 60s). And there are also a few design books, culinary design, graphic design, photo…

When Jules has a little extra (because it’s nice and not often), he’ll come back especially because as a bonus, Benoit – the proud possessor of a coffee barista certificate, makes one of the best espressos in town alone justifies a visit to this magical place!
